Caregiver/Child Programs

Blue Lotus provides direct programming for children and their caregivers. This involves providing occupational and physical therapists as well as volunteers, who deliver direct programming and support. Blue Lotus provides a time for participants to establish a new level of communication and bonding through outdoor activities that include fishing, guided nature walks, nature crafts, kayaking and canoeing. Attendees are free to picnic on the grounds and relax all day in this carefully structured, safe setting.

Independence Day is one such program, which has been offered once per year. Thanks to a generous grant from the Helen Bader Foundation, Blue Lotus is happy to announce that the 2012 season will include three Independence Days.

The Benefits of Blue Lotus Independence Day are hard to find anywhere else:

  • A day of respite in nature that was created to be accessible, physically and emotionally, for those with special needs and their families.

  • One-on-one assistance and education in caring for each other and the special needs child.

  • Encouragement for family interaction - the supportive environment allows for guardians and caretakers to spend time with each other and their non-special needs children as well, knowing all children are experiencing holistic therapies and expertise.
